About Capoeira
Capoeira is an afro-brazilian fightingdance, which by song and music tells the story of Brazilian slavery. Capoeira is both fighting with kicks and defences, acrobatics, dance and rythm. The capoeiramusic sets the pace of the game as well as it dictates the kind of game played.
In capoeira to player fight eachother in a so called 'roda', which is a circle of capoistas who clap, sing and play instruments. Capoeira is a improviced game, and it is not possible to tell what kind of game will develop between two players. Capoeira is not about winning over the oponent, but about creating a lively fluent cooperative game. The game is developed through a series of calls and answers between the players.
Capoeira is uniqe in its incorporation of tactical, fluent and acrobatic movement from the rythmical and musical world. As it is often asked; "What is capoeira - is it a dance, martial art or just a game?'
Capoeira is no longer just a phenonema in Brazil, it has spread throughout the world. In Denmark there capoeira groups in almost all larger cities.
In the capoeira culture it is normal to attend workshops with other groupd, both domestic and abroad. Capoeira is a great place to meet new friends and leapfrog both personal and international borders.
